I had the same problem with my 18 month old. He wouldn't go to sleep unless I, and I only, would put him on my chest in the chair and put him soundly asleep. As you know that gets old very quickly. I am a stay at home mom so when he went to sleep for his naps I would instead of putting him on my chest until he went to sleep completely I would start by putting him on my chest for only 20 mins and then put him in his bed even if he wasn't completely alseep. Now he did cry for a while but then went to sleep and then the next night I put him on my chest for 18 mins and slowly but sure I got him down to 5 mins on my chest then he goes in his bed and sleeps. My child is still in a crib so I really don't have the problem with him coming into our room. But I will say this if you give in even once to child to come into bed he will never learn that it is not acceptable to sleep with mommy and daddy. If you want him to stop wanting to come into you bed then you can't have him in you bed at all or he will not learn. Now this is only my advice and what has worked for me. Hope things go better
