dark bleeding on the pill a week before next period is due

i am a mother of one a little boy named hayden. i am on mircette the birth control pill. i have missed maybe 3 this last month and i am now 6 days away from my next period but yesturday i started bleeding dark blood almost black.i called my gyn and they said to take two pills a day for two days and by the start of the second day it should almost have stopped...well it hasn't and i was just wondering if this could be implantion bleeding or a misscarriage...or just what it is..
