I have just started experiencing this problem. Our 15 1/2 month old son has been on a very good schedule since 4 months. Then just this week he started crying after I put him down either for naps and/or bedtime. He is so overtired at this point that it is really hard for him to comfort himself to sleep. For the past 2 nights the only way he will fall asleep is if one of us is holding him. Last night we let him cry for about an hour. We probably checked on him every 15 minutes or so. I know that we need to "retrain" him so he doesn't get used to us holding him at naps and bedtime, however we believe that he needs to be well rested to do so. We also put 2 of his favorite stuffed animals in his crib, so that he has somekind of a comfort object besides us. I'm really not sure if this has worked yet. Lastly, I also suspect that he may be transitioning to 1 nap, that is why I think his schedule is out of wack. Let me know what you have tried. Thanks.
