SUBJECT: Dr Phil's suggestions for crying babies
I saw this on Dr Phil. Some of this is well known, but some may be new. These things are supposed to initiate the "calming reflex". We had great luck with No. 1. Good luck to all with crying babies!
1) With baby in your arms, get close to their ear and say "SHH" as loud as you possibly can in their ear. My husband was really good at it because he can be loud. You have to do it loud and for a few seconds until you get the response you want! Sounds wierd, but it is supposed to initiate the calming reflex. Idea is that it is very noisy in the uterus and babies are calmed by that kind of noise. It worked about 70% of the time for us and that is so worth it! Even if it just works once, that helps.
2. Place baby on your lap on his/her side
3. Swaddling
4. Rocking
5. Sucking on pacifier or finger

Let me know if the "SHH"ing works for you!
