 | My daughter is 4.5 weeks. Since she was 1 week old, she has been crying, fussing and screaming excessively, arching, throwing her head back, sleeping very poorly, and doing some mild spitting up among other symptoms. At the nurse's suggestion, we have tried regular Similac, Isomil, and Lactose Free (our current one). None has made much difference, though the Isomil made her much worse. The pediatrician suspects reflux and just started her on Zantac yesterday. I know it will take a few days to work (if reflux is indeed the problem). She also has Mylicon with every feeding. Holding her upright after meals and elevating her head while sleeping make no difference. She sleeps like a 'normal' baby maybe one sleep cycle a day. She is more likely to sleep better at night, though that is when we most often hear pirecing, urgent screams about an hour after feeding (burping occasionally helps this). My questions are: 1. Given what we have tried so far, does anyone have any other suggestions? 2. The dr says Alimentum will not help her b/c she does not have symptoms consistent with a protein allergy/intolerance (she said it would not help if reflux was indeed her problem). But in reading some postings here, many people with reflux babies say Alimentum or Nutramigen has made a huge difference. Did you try these formulas purely for the reflux or did your baby have other medical issues that caused you to try?
Thank you for any advice you have to offer! |
