It may be that he doesn't like his space to be invaded. My son does not throw tantrums and knock things off shelves,etc. but he does tend to get very tense when other people are over. He is used to our calm ways and when we have company it is hard for him to handle. He does fine if we go somewhere else. And he does get over his tenseness after a little while. I would try to start out slowly and have only someone come over for 15 min and leave and then 30 etc. It may just be too overwhlming for him. Good luck and hope this helps.
