SUBJECT: Blighted ovum or no???
My story is a bit complicated. I miscarried on October 21st 2003. On the 27th they took blood to make sure my HCG level went down. It was .006, so definatly miscarried. Exactly(november 21st) month later I was sick with a broncitis like cold and I went to my docs office. He did a routine pregnancy test and it came back positive. We did an HCG test and it came back 113. Then On Dec 3rd it was 4886, then Dec 8th it was 8046. I started spotting a bit of brown discharge on the 14th (I had intercourse the night before) They did an ultrasound and HCG test. The ultrasound only found a gestational sac. My HCG level was 16,493 at that time. They told me to go in the next monday the 22nd and do another ultrasound, but that it didn't look promising and would probably miscarry. So I had an ultrasound last monday along with an HCG draw. Again, all they saw was a gestational sac with nothing in it but my hormone levels went up again! The doc told me it was a blighted ovum and to have a D&C right away. I said no and that I would miscarry on my own. Well, prior to spotting I had already made an appointment for Janurary 5th for ultrasound. My doc told me not to go to the ultrasound because there was no chance there would be a baby, but I have this overwhelming feeling to go and to make sure it has either re-absorbed in my body, or that there really is no baby in the sac. Mind you, no one really knows how far along I am because my miscarraige was exactly a month before I found out I was pregnant. Am I in denial or could there really be a chance that a baby shows up in the sac? I have researched and looked at ultrasounds for abnormal pregnancies. My sac looks perfectly normal. I just don't want to have a D&C if there is a chance that a baby might form!
Has anyone had this happen to them? Has anyone had a baby even after the docs told them it was a blighted ovum?? I don't know what to do!
