SUBJECT: Aggressive Affection
I have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter. She is currently displaying a behavior that we feel is too aggressive. We don't have any idea how to control it. She kisses and hugs too much, she does this constantly. I love it when she hugs and kisses me, however this is too the extreme. When she hugs, she squeezes so hard that it will actually make my head hurt. She has scared some of the kids at daycare with this. I feel that she is doing some of it purposefully to be dominant. However, there are many times when she just loves to show affection and does so the proper way. At daycare she is now taught to ask her peers before hugging them. She is also told to be gentle and quick (a count of 3). It seems to be helping at daycare, but not at home. Especially when it comes to me. I know that she is really pushing her limits with us on great deal of things right now. There are ways to discipline those behaviors. However, how do you control aggressive affection without driving her away? She did mention to me the other day that a little boy in daycare didn't want her to kiss him.
