SUBJECT: 3 YEAR OLD HAS ATTACKED MOTHER, DEFIES BOTH PARENTS
I have a three year old boy that for the last year has become increasingly violent and has even attacked his mother and contiuously defies both of us. He does not seem to have any long term memory and I think this because he can be punished(time-out, spanking, redirection, firm guidence, ignoring the behavior, ect.--have tried them all and nothing works.) and 5 minutes later he is doing it again. This is not merely "kid's stuff" like getting into the cookie jar or getting into the refridgerator. I am talking about behavior that is detrimental to the well-being of my other two children. He has attacked his twin brother in his sleep with hard toys.(We have long since removed all hard plastic/wood toys from his room as well as the house.) He has thrown a dining room chair at myself because I would not give him a peice of candy. He became enraged at his mother because she would not allow him to play in the kitchen cabinets and threw eating utenils at her. He consistantly flails about when he doesn't get what he wants in public. We constantly find him beating up the other two siblings when only two or three minutes prior they were playing very well together and yes we supervise them constatly and watch them like hawks. I grow increaingly concerned as the behavior becomes more aggressive and the acts become more violent. My other two children are beginning to take on some of his violent attributes and defiant behavior. My concern is both for Son #1 who is causing the behavior as well as his other 2 siblings Son # 2 and Daughter #1. Their mother and I are nearly at our wits end and this was made worse when a child psychiatrist told us that he had ODD or Possibly ADHD. Her cure for it? Ignore his behavior. She told us to turn our back to him and show him that the behavior would not be tolerated. I suppose that would be alright if he was only throwing a temper tantrum and wasn't beating the snot out of one of the other kids. Help.
