SUBJECT: We thought it was colic but it was actually reflux
I want to share my experience with everyone and hope that it may be of some help to someone else. This board helped me tremendously when my daughter was 2 weeks old and started crying and screaming off and on for hours. It felt good to know that I was not alone. We thought we were going to have to deal with colic until at least 3 months old. However, I had noticed some other parents were dealing with "silent reflux" of which I had never heard of before. My daughter did spit up a few times a day but it didn't seem excessive. After discussing it with my ped, we started the Zantac syrup. The first day, my daughter slept almost all day (a first since she had been up screaming nonstop for many previous nights). The Zantac did take about a week or more to get the full effect. It takes time for the esophagus to heal. I am happy to say that she is a brand new baby. NO MORE COLIC! It was silent reflux. No more crying and screaming. If you are dealing with colic, it could really be silent reflux, talk to your pediatrician. We started the Zantac at 5 weeks, she has been taking it for a month now and she is so happy and a completely different baby. Hope this helps.
