 | My daughter has a very attractive, outgoing, motivational personality. But in the same breath she seems to have extremely low self esteem. She has said "I hate my life, I wish I was dead, I hate my brother, etc". I took her to a shrink because she became increasingly rude and disresepctful to ME! I am the one constant in her life. I am always here, I help with homeowrk, I take her to fun places, we do things together, I watch all her sports. I am here and she knows it.
Her dad and I divorced 7 years ago when she was 2. He has let her down a lot in the past but she will never show that it hurts her. She has always made up excuses or just takes what he says as gold and is ok with it.
My boyfriend of 5 years, is VERY strict. I know that he yells way too much and doesn't offer enough praise to my kids or his. Since the beginning I have thought that we would have a balanced relationship. He's very strict and I am very consistent with my discipline but much more "loving". I am now thinking of leaving him, he is so negative and nit picky all the time. Right down to telling the kids to eat their meat before anything else!!!! COme on...
Anyway, school is a problem now for my daughter. She is teasing other kids, name calling and passing notes. She is way too talkative and snotty.
This is not my little girl. She can be so mean to me. The looks, the grunts, the comments, the constant sassy attitude.
I veere away from spankings but I have done time outs, early to bed, something fun taken away, etc. Now we are doing a strike system. She gets 3 strikes a day. If she has 14 strikes LEFT at the end of the week she gets a pack of gum or something fun like that. She is doing ok, just making the 14 she needs!!!
She is also hitting her brother and screaming at him for no reason usual. He just drives her buggy and she screams at him all the time.
I don't know what to do. The shrink says he thinks it has to do with her dad payaing me child support!! What???? And he also says she does not have a clinical problem. NOw with the school seeing her problems, she really needs help.
I am meeting with her teacher next week, with my daughter...I also heard that there might be some teacher prejudice going on. I take it with a grain of salt but a relative told me the teacher dislikes 4 kids, my daughter, her cousin and two others...but it could just be gossip. Hopefully I can tell something by the way my daugher acts at the meeting. My daughter says she likes her teacher so... we;ll see I guess. Any tips or thoughts are welcome...
