SUBJECT: 14 month old grandson-neglected or not? I'm worried
My son and daughter-in-law(DIL) and 14 month old grandson are living with us as they have just relocated back to our home area. I'm very concerned that my grandson has spent a lot of his short life being ignored at home. They've been in our house for a month now and I'm seeing some very disturbing things. Our DIL sits around and barks orders at our son to change the baby's diaper, run his bath water, fix him a bottle, get him dressed, see what he needs, etc. Both of them have been fortunate enough to get jobs, so the baby is home with me during the day. He's very good for me. When his parents get home, he starts hitting his mother and our dogs and anyone that he feels like hitting. When told not to hit, he starts smacking his lips as if to ask for a sugar. On the weekends, our son likes to sleep in late. I don't see a problem with that as he gets up very early through the week. Our DIL can't stand for him to sleep in. She needs him to get up and tend to the baby so she can be on the phone. She did that this past weekend and I went in to get the baby so his daddy could sleep for a while and when I picked him up, that child was soaked clean through his sleeper! Our son gets onto her from time to time to do things herself and that's when the drama starts! She's tired or she's sick (and she's 18 weeks pregnant). I want to choke her! Please, someone tell me what I can do. I'm worried about my grandson! The hitting, the fact that he's still on a bottle and a sassy, and he isn't talking, yet, except for bye-bye, mama, and dada. Is this something that needs to be reported?
