You already brought up the point about rotting the teeth. I'm a recovery room nurse and we've had several children a year come in to get most of their teeth extracted for this very reason. Not only does it cause a problem with teeth, but it increases the risk for ear infection! This is the reason that I've decided to stop giving my son (12 months) his nightly bottle. I thought that eventually he'll grow out of it, until a friend at work told me her son was taking nighttime bottles until age 4!!! You must stop it now while you have the chance. It will be hard because she's 18 months old and they are very smart by then. You won't be able to trick her. I believe pacifiers are okay. She must learn that this is her only option at night. You'll have to put up with some screaming. This will be difficult, trust me!! I can't sleep at all when my son screams, and I stay awake until he's sound asleep.
