SUBJECT: more on Aspbergers Syndrome
My daughter is seven now, and she has been diagnosed with AS. She has had all other sorts of dx, some which have stayed with her, and some which have not. It seems like this is one of the ones that make since. She also has Depression, Social Anxiety Disorder, and ADHD. We have been through a battery of medications. Right now she will be starting in a special education program, which hopefully will help. Her IEP plan will be written up by this coming Wednesday. Some times my husband and I get to where we can hardly handle it. But, looking back, if we had known about this before, all of the things that have gone on in her life up to now would have made so much more since. Lindsay is such a smart little girl, it's so hard for us as parents to see her this way. She is in the 2nd grade, and has trouble with comprehension, directions and so forth. But then she reads on a fifth grade and higher level. The year before last I pleaded with the school to do an IEP but they said a few behavioral outbursts couldn't warrant any extra help, that she was doing just fine with her academics. Then last year she did poorly in the 1st grade and was with a teacher who was in her very first year of teaching. Going into that year the dr thought she was Bi Polar. She is on meds now that are helpful to her. Trileptal and Risperdal. My baby is laughing and smiling for the first time in years. She has gotten back to the ADHD properties, because she is off of those meds, but its like the LOrd has just blessed her with a smile again. ;))) Now I take it one day at a time, knowing that each day is different, and knowing that she is different. Knowing that she is my child for a reason.
