SUBJECT: Babysitting question-diapers
I have a question regarding a girl I have to babysit.I'm not sure if I should have posted this here or in another forum.I have to babysit my friend's daughter who is 6 years old.She wets the bed and has to wear extra large Pampers diapers at night. Her mother wants me to help her get ready for bed including diapering her before going to bed.I feel a bit uncomfortable doing this however. She has no physical, emotional, mental,or developmental disabilities. My question is this-at what age should a child who has no emotional, mental, physical,or developmental disabilities be able to diaper themselves?I remember talking to a friend of mine a few years ago about a 6 year old boy she had to babysit. She told me she had to diaper him before going to bed(I believe because he wet the bed) and he threw a fit and wouldn't let her diaper him.Frankly,I can't say as I blame him.I know some kids need diapers later than other kids.I myself wore diapers because of bedwetting as late as 12 years old-but is it normal for parents to diaper a child this age?Have any other parents done this?I don't want to embarrass the child and I personally believe it would be good for her self esteem if she was taught to put her own diapers on.I would appreciate any imput you have on this.
