It sounds like you are describing my son at the age of 2. I also tried to bring him to story time at the library. I got laid off, and was very excited about the things we could do, laid out all of these plans, only to be foiled by this type of behavior. It happened at the park, and the co-op preschool, everywhere! I cancelled my plans to join a playgroup. So it's not just you.

I'm not sure why he was like this. But I suspect he was immature and high-energy. He did not like structured activities and he wanted to do things his way.
