In her entire life she has been spanked less times than i can count on 1 hand-- all related to safety issues where we had previously discussed the rules and consequences etc. Anyhow, Friday the school called me. Brady had apparently gotten some matches here at home. (She is not allowed to play with them or touch them.) He friend Lisa also took some from her house. On recess they went into the restroom and were taking turns lighting them.A teacher came by and they quickly threw them in the garbage can so as to not get caught. She smelled the "sulphur" and asked them about it. they both lied. About that time the wastebasket began to smoke-- it was on fire. The alarm automatically went to the station and the truck came out. Both children were suspended for 5 days out. I had to go bring her home immediately but I was not prepared to spank her then. I was way too emotional and angry. I sent her to her room with the promise of a sound spanking after her dad and I had time to talk.
My husband and I sat down with her and talked about it-- the sneaking and stealing matches, the lying, and finally the fire. We drove her to the fire station to apologize to the firemen. She did and told them that we were going to spank her when we got home. One of the firemen answered that she had earned it herself.No sympathy there.
When we got home Mike made her go to her room and put the chair in place and get the spanking paddle. (We use a paddle ball toy paddle for spanking her.)We both went upstairs together. Again he talked and assured that she understood why this was necessary. He told her that she must bring us the paddle and ask for her spanking. Amidst great sobbing and remorse she brought it to me and asked me to spank for for lying, stealing, and playing with fire. I wasn't sure who was going to spank but since she gave it to me, I took my seat and delivered as sound a spanking as she had ever had. I don't hit hard. Rather I use a light rapid stinging approach alternating areas. Her bottom reddened up very quickly and I knew it became intense. When I stood her up her dad took her by the arm and gave her a couple more cracks with his hand and told her she shamed the family name today. She was crying uncontrollably and said she was so sorry. We held her then and said we were sorry that she had made such poor choices but it was our responsibility to prevent that from happening again. She's never been any trouble and I know she was just playing with the matches for fun-- I used to do the same. I hope she learned her lesson. I hated spanking her and had to go in my room and cry afterward. It's been a bummer of a week end because she's grounded from everything until she goes back to school next week.
