This may seem unrealistic, but this is what I did, kind of automatically, with zero forethought. One night when I was putting him to bed (he was two), I said, "I don't like getting up in the middle of the night to give you milk. I am tired. I want to sleep. How would you like it if someone screamed in the middle of the night until you got up? So, I'm not going to get up anymore. No more milk in the middle of the night." He looked at me in utter shock. He woke up that night. I went in there and said "don't wake me up in the middle of the night. I am sleeping. I am tired. Go back to sleep." It happened one more night, and then it was over. But he was using a sippy cup, and I left a sippy cup of water next to his bed. |
