We have been there and done that with our son as well. Our son did it for the attention and the response he gets from strangers and the family. Getting down to his level and talking in a nice quiet voice did nothing to us but make it worse, since his incentive was to get the attention anyway. As hard as this sounds, IGNORE IT...It is not life threatening behavior and doesn't require an immediate response from you. If he isn't getting the pay back, it will eventually extinguish on it's own. It worked for us...Good luck
