AUTHOR: VBway
I have been teaching him that making a mess isn't good. I have been sitting down with him to make him pick up the mess (which is more time-consuming than just picking up the mess, myself). I am not sure if this is going to work. It is a lot of work and takes up so much time to do it this way. Walking behind my son, picking up behind him (or making him pick up) isn't my idea of fun especially now that I am pregnant. I love him, therefore I want him to be liked in social circles. I fear that if he continues to be destructive, he won't be invited to places by other parents. I fear that no one will want to babysit him, if I really need it. I hate that he gives others such trouble that way. I really want to nip this in the bud, but don't know how.
I don't know what to do about him throwing stuff at us, though. Slap on the hand? Spanking? Firm voice? Give him "the look"? Time-out? We don't use time out because there is nowhere safe to put him. If we put him in his booster chair and strap him in, he can knock the chair backwards and hurt himself. His room is still unpacked, therefore unsafe.
