SUBJECT: My idea....
IN REPLY TO: Tantrum Foster Child _no spanking allowed-
AUTHOR: Dixiepeep
I am a mother of a three yr old. He also senses when we are upset with him and wants a hug at that point. We give him the hug for this reason: We still love him. We are upset with what he did. And I explain that to him after I give the hug. He doesn't get off too easily just because I give him a hug. He is still in as much trouble as before. Since he is still a toddler, I can't tell you if it is working or not, but I do know that I never want not hugging him on my conscience.

Having never been a mother to a foster child or a mother to a child with a rough background, all I can do here is "arm-chair quarter-back". I agree witht the above suggestion to give plenty of praise and affection all the time. You can't go wrong that way, right? You DO love this wonderful little girl, so why not show it? She needs it more than anything else. Tantrums are normal. They will go away with patience and consistancy on your part. But her childhood she will always remember. She needs some good memories. And you sound like just the right type of mother to give her those. I admire and appreciate mothers like you! Keep up the great work! The world depends on it.
