 | Hi....you definately are not expecting too much when it comes to your own child.....possibly expecting too much from public school. One of my daughters also went to public kindergarten, I didn't know what to expect either and just kind of went along with the way things were but I started realizing there was a lot of time spent on children who acted out, did not behave very well and needed extra help. When I went to the school about it, it was always the same thing, they have a right to be there and they are doing the best they can dealing with them. I didn't think she was being challenged at all and started looking into private school. I found a great private school for first grade, but my daughter was already behind!! I thought "My goodness, how could she be behind the private schools, she only went to kindergarten!!" but she was, so I had her tutored for the summer and she was able to get into the private school. She's in second grade now and still getting mostly all A's. I am a single mom of two so I applied for a scholarship through the school and qualified for 75% so I only have to pay 25% and although even that is not easy, I will always do what I can to keep them in the school. My second daughter has now started kindergarten in the private school, they are already working on addition and subtraction, reading and spelling, they are past shapes and colors and she has not had a problem keeping up. They have computers, art, music, and PE, each with specialized teachers for each subject that come to the classroom a couple times a week and a couple recess' per day. And because it is a privilege, not a right to be there, children that continuously act out, or do not keep up their grades, are removed. Also, everyone is paying to go to the school, so all the parents are very involved with their childrens' education and my children don't get in the wrong group with other children who couldn't careless about their grades. So, as long as they can keep up with the higher academics, they will go to private school. Don't get me wrong, public schools are great, because everyone does deserve an education, even the ones who don't care much about education and those who are not as well behaved. |
