Wow. Your description fits my son almost to a T. He also was a very cranky baby until almost 5 months, then little by little became happier. He was clapping his hands together for awhile, especially when we did it, but now he doesn't imitate us at all. The only thing that is giving me hope is he does point at things. Not very often, but he clearly does point. It's quite easy to make him smile and laugh, but impossible to get him to imitate us. Today I forced him to wave bye-bye to the Teletubbies, and he continued a weak wave on his own for just a few seconds. The county worker came by to ask us questions, and she set up his evaluation for November 5 at 9:30 in the morning. (We live on the east coast) I will tell you how it went that afternoon when he's taking a nap. They give you the results immediately, no waiting, thank God. I'm so happy for you that your doctor is doing something about it. Mine kept saying not to worry, everything seems fine. Nothing would be happening even now if I didn't push for it. I'm pretty upset about it, I don't know what to say to her. To make things even more difficult, I'm her hairdresser and have known her for many years before my son was born. Connor is not up to par with other kids his age, not by a longshot. I can't believe I listened to her for months. I knew something was wrong for at least 3 months now. I know what you mean about starting to wonder about things, I'm paying so much attention to everything I'm going a little nuts. He doesn't seem to be paying as much attention to us as he used to. Maybe that's a normal thing, maybe it's not. Now I'm so worried about his one year shots. I've been investigating autism and immunizations for awhile, and everyone has a definate opinion. Of couse almost everyone in the med. profession swears they are not linked and get angry and defensive and sometimes will treat you like you are stupid for mentioning it. Yet so many parents swear that the MMR shot changed their child. If he is showing symptoms of something wrong now, will the shot push him over the edge and he won't be the same ever again? There are no studies that link cancer to power lines, yet so many people believe it to be true. The same can possibly be said about immunizations and autism. Who knows why but sometimes horrible things are covered up, even in this day and age. If I decide to hold off on his MMR vaccine for awhile, my doctor is going to refuse to treat my son, and it's hard to find one that will. I am going out of my mind trying to decide what to do about that. If he does get this vaccine, and he changes for the worse, I will blame myself because I had fair warning will all this info I've been collecting. If he doesn't get the vaccine, and becomes very sick or dies from one of these sicknesses, I will also blame myself. I just want to sit here and swear all the worst swear words over and over again because I can't decide which option is best for my son. It's not likely he could get any of these illnesses because they usually aren't around anymore, but I think if he's exposed to a child who recently had the shot, I think that is dangerous. I'm not really sure. I'm going a little more nuts every day we get closer to his 12 month appointment for this shot. I'll let you know how his eval. goes on Nov. 5, take care.
Christine
