SUBJECT: Developmentally behind? HELP.
Hi, my son is 8 weeks old today. I don't want to say anything to my wife, because she gets upset, but I think there might be something wrong with him.

My baby is lethargic. He stares blankly into outerspace much of the time. He doesn't react much to bright light or to sound. My wife says he's laidback, but he screams when he's hungry and gets really mad if he isn't fed right away. He doesn't seem laidback in that respect. He never gets startled or reacts to anything, except being hungry.

He sticks out his tongue constantly, but he has no problem eating or nursing. He cannot really hold up his head at all without help. That seems behind to me. He does kick around with his legs, so I think that is a good sign.

He never smiles or coos at us. We talk to him and smile at him, but he doesn't interact with us the way I think he should. My sister had a baby, and he was so much more alert and happy and interactive.

What do you think I should do? Does anyone have any advice? I don't want to upset my wife. She thinks he is fine. The doctor said he checks out fine too, but I can't help but think something is wrong. He just doesn't seem to connect with us.

He also sleeps ALL DAY long.I hope this is normal and I am just scared, but my gut feeling says there is something wrong.

Thanks.
