My dd also uses the avent pacis and has since birth, the only one she would take, trust me, I tried others. They are a totally different shape than the nuks are though so be prepared if he doesn't like it. The nuks also come in different sizes like the avents. Just make sure you are using a newborn size paci first, that might fix the problem. As far as sucking on fingers, he probably will eventually anyway my dd is 6 1/2mo and has been sucking on her thumb, occasionally, for about the past month. Once he finds his hands and fingers, he is going to suck on them to "explore" them.
