 | My daughter is 4 1/2 and is still not potty trained. Potty training is very difficult, because she can not speak nor can she use sign lanuage. She has developmental delays and has just began to catch up with other children in the last year since she has been taken off her medication. (do not get me wrong, I have been blessed to have a child with special needs. It has made me learn not to take anything for granted). I have tried asking her OT for help and have gotten no answers. She is enrolled in a preschool for children with special needs and they have no answers either. I believe she is ready because she tries to remove the soiled diapers-pullups herself and sometimes she plays in the feces. I have tried to sit her on the potty and I gave her plenty of time getting to know the potty, by letting her sit on the potty with clothes on and watch TV,etc. She has went on the potty two times with much resistance (I am talking screaming terror). She has had problems with constipation in the past, but now she only has this problem about once every two-three months. Her physicain has no advice, because we live in an area where there is a lack of education on special needs children. I need any advice someone could give on this subject. And please no jokes about my child...our family has been through enough in the last 4 1/2 years (in and out of hospitals, etc.) If you do not seriously want to try to help please do not respond (I ask this with my mis-guided faith in the humankind). |
