I have been dating my girlfriend for over a year and we have had sex plenty of times and no-one has come to any harm over it. She got pregnant once but we got rid of it...

Man, are you ever leaving yourself wide open with that statement. I'm not going to get involved in debating the abortion issue, one way or the other -- it's a complex, many-sided question and always will be -- but the casualness of your statement is shocking. "She got pregnant once but we got rid of it..." Sounds like you were talking about a common cold or a stray cat, not a wrenching, crisis situation. One thing comes across loud and clear: the two of you may be fine and loving people, and may have a great future, but at present you're nowhere as mature, sensible and in-control as you seem to think you are. It's pretty obvious that you were (and may still be) among those that you refer to as "...not physically or emotionally ready for sex." People who are, don't have to "get rid of" unwanted pregnancies. Good luck with your relationship -- but I would do less talking about it, and less advice-giving, if I were you. I would hardly hold your example up as a good model for other teens to follow. But I do wish you the best.
