how do you stop the fighting with boyfriend in front of your children

I have been with my childrens father for 4 yrs now and he always seems to fight with me over petty things. And I always try to stop or prevent the fighting and arguing in front of my kids and I dont know how to stop them. My kids see it everyday and sees him call me names and sometimes hit me how can I prevent all this from happening if you have anythingyou would like add to help please do so either on here or in my email
