 | Yes, this is public kindergarten. You will find things are completely different in some private schools. In our school, the Kindies, even our K-4's can read, even if it is just a simple sentence like 'Mrs. Dash wore a hat to the store'. In math they are working on graphs, addition, subtraction, and fractions. A few of the children can do multiplication and division. They go outside to play three times a day. Our art teacher teaches all children individually. Some of the Kindies are learning how to draw 3D objects and what 'perspective' means.
This is the beast of public school. You will find some parents who genuinely care about their children but are in bad circumstances, but some of these parents do not even make sure the children can write their name, address, and phone number before they start. Some of these children have never been to the library in their lives. Some of them don't even know the ABC's. The reason teachers have to tell the children in your child's class what color to use, is that these children do not even know their colors!
There is a way to get a half-descent education in that school, and that is to be down there every day making sure that you are the boss of your child's education. Make sure she is learning to read. If this teacher will not help her, have her moved to another class. |
