SUBJECT: 6 week baby has not nursed, i want to start now
My son has not yet breastfed consistently, at first because he was tongue-tied for the first four weeks, and now because I just have had a hard time getting him interested in it. He has gotten used to immediate gratification, and does not want to wait for the milk to come. When i put him to the breast, he latches on and if he doesn't get milk right away, he starts crying hysterically and gets really red, which makes me run for the bottle. other times he doesn't even latch on. when he's really hungry, he doesn't even want to try nursing. He just cries until I give him the bottle. I feel more or less like a failure. everyone in my family has nursed their babies and they are all telling me that I should try until he learns because nursing is the only way i will create a bond with my baby. Is this true and if so, how can i get him at this late stage to learn to nurse? also, please suggest some positions because the few times that he has nursed, he has done so only from a football position, which is rather uncomfortable.
