Cruelty to animals seems pretty serious to me. Hopefully you can nip this in the bud. Why not spend some time talking (just you) with a therapist specializing in behavior modification for children? It sounds like you need some analysis of the situation, and some suggestions on how you can help your child, and mold his behavior and his thoughts.

And of course, throw the bat away, and remove any object that can be used as a weapon.
