4 yr old with huge temper just killed pet

I'm not sure what happened..I was in the shower at the time. I came out to find our bird laying on the coffee table and him watching tv. He acted as if nothing happened. He thinks that she will be back. I got him to tell me what had happened a few hours later and he said that she wasn't watching what he was doing so he hit her with a bat. I am at a complete loss. He does the same with his older brother. If he doesn't do what he wants he will hit him. I have tried everything I can from eliminating everything that has anything to do with violence to spending every moment I can with him and nothing helps. I am very scared that he is going to be like his dad.....Help
