 | It really worries me that in today's society teachers are so quick to label children as having ADD/ADHD. It seems as if a child in this day an age, at the age of 2, should know way past their age in information. We are stressing children out today with our scholastic expectations. Children are learning information much earlier. In pre-k, a child is considered not to be upto par, if they don't know their alphabet, their address, telephone number, and if they want to play throughout their school day they are considered to have some form of hyperactivity disorder.
Our society is running in such a fast pace, that we the adults, do not have time to stop and appreciate the small things in life which surround us. We are brining up our children in this same pace.
I strongly suggest, if you have been told to evaluate your child for ADD/ADHD, then yes do so, but keep in mind how you truly feel your child is. Be honest with yourself, if you think the child does have a problem and you feel the doctor's recommendation to take medication, is the best route then do so. But if you truly feel, your child is just being "childish" and that he/she is normal, then evaluate the child but find other measures, not medication to help him or her.
I am a parent too. And one of my children has been labelled with ADHD, and I truly feel the child is normal, and have done my own behaviour strategies, and let me tell you the grades in school range from 86 to 100, and this is not with any medication.
Kids are meant to be kids, not young professionals. Let them enjoy life -- be there for your kids.
