 | When I see a child in a car without a safety seat, I write down the license plate and call the police. We can do something about all these problems. When I see someone smoking in front of a child, I walk over to them and ask them if they know they could be giving their child cancer. Most of them don't care, but at least I did not stand by and do nothing.
I agree with you that before someone is allowed to bring a child into this world they SHOULD have to go through what you went through to be a foster parent. It is easier to have a baby in this country than it is to drive a car.
You sound like a very caring parent who tries as hard as he can, and has a plan to make things better as they move along. You seem to have a grasp on your current shortcommings, and that is the first thing you need to succeed. Please know that if nobody else believes in you, there is a stranger on the internet who does.
Don't be down on yourself, There is a big difference between using a credit card to pay for a broken furnace and using it to go shopping at the mall. The best thing you could possibly do is to get to a point where you can start paying a little extra each month on that mortage so more of what you earn can be yours and not the bank's. Somehow, I already know that you will do that in the future.
I love how you talk about your care program being the closest thing you could find to a positive home environment. Many parents don't look for that. They look for the cheapest or most convienient place. They also try to kid themselves into thinking the child is just as good or better there for 'social' reasons. Not only do you not make excuses, you recognize problems and come up with solutions.
Your child is much better off at the beach surrounded by love than at Disney surrounded by commercialism. Ther is going to be a big difference in your child and what we call 'kennel kids' around here.
You seem like the kind of person who has had a few bad hands dealt to him but has quit gambling now and is on the road to success. Keep your child as your first priority. If you do not have a four year degree, get one, scratch that, go for your Masters! Even if it takes you ten years of studying nights, I can see you doing some great things in your life. |
