SUBJECT: Anyone have a child with petichiae?
When my son had his well baby 8wk check up last week, I mentioned that he had a wierd rash on his chest and belly. The ped said it was petichiae, not a rash but tiny burst blood vessels under the skin, and that it was a sign of low platelets. They scared me to death and ordered all these stat blood tests b/c petichiae can be a sign of lukemia, but all the tests came back negative. His platelet levels were completely normal. I am worried because they couldn't give me a reason he had this rash. Has this happened to anyone? What should I do?
