My 8 yr. old son had that similar problem last year. I contacted his teacher and we discussed it. She told me that he was a very intelligent person and that sometimes, intelligent people have problems with organizational skills. Of course, that did not help us solve the problem. How I handled it was to tell my son not to leave the building in the afternoon( he is a walker so there was no time crunch for loading the bus)unless he checked his assignment book thoroughly and brought everything (and I mean everything!) that was needed to complete the homework. It seemed to help him "slow down" and think about what he needed to pack before coming home. It seemed that he was more interested in rushing home to call and make a play date with one of his friends than to complete homework first. We also had to ground him from playing, tv, computer for a week to get the message across that we meant business! The ironic thing is that this year (4th Gr.) he has very little homework because he works to get it done in class. Maybe our toughness paid off? Good Luck!
