My 9 year old is going through the same thing right now. He did great in the 2nd grade aside from having a deficit in math. Now the 3rd grade is such a struggle for him. I did opt on my own to have him tested and he was found to a learning disability, specifically a processing and memory deficit. What we may think is a simple process to get to 3+3 is an entirely different thought process for my son. His school offers a program called NILD-Discovery where he gets one on one help 2x/week for 80 minutes. What they do is start over from the beginning with the different domains of learning. The idea is that the child's two brain hemispheres are not working together. So if you constantly bombard it with information and reteach them how to think, then the town hemispheres will start working together, instead of remaining in a confused state. It is a national program and many schools and states have satellite programs set up. Don't think that tetsing her is going to define her as smart or not smart. Really it can only aid her. It's so much better to define the problem and get a a handle on it now, rather than let it go and she continues to struggle. You should visit the NILD website www.nild.com
