SUBJECT: reglan
I am actually a mother of a 12 year old boy who as a baby and toddler was given Reglan for acid reflux. He was on medicine for almost 3 years. I complained throughout his treatment that Reglan was making him hyper. We finally decided to take him off and never looked back....until now!! For 8 years our son had been diagnosed with adhd bipolar learning disabilities and so on. He never learned to tie his shoes, eat with silverware he lacks just about every fine motor skill there is. Also, he lacks social skills.
We just recently found out our child has been misdiagnosed with above disorders. Doctor believes he is suffering psychosis and has been for many years. While I have been doing research on this diagnoses, I ran into a lot of info on Reglan and psychosis. I was shocked I talked to his doctor about this and she said it very well could be that he has suffered this since taking Reglan. I am beside myself as to what to do. I feel it necessary to spread my thoughts on this. If I had known about this I would never have given my child this medicine. He has been in psychiatric hospital 3 different times. I cant tell you how difficult this has been. If there is anyone out there with any type of info please help us out.
One thing I can tell you that I have learned throughout this is to always trust your motherly instincts. If the medicine is making your child behave differently tell your doctor and demand an explanation. If I had only known!!!!
