I was wondering where she might have learned only to respect the bigger person because I find it strange...

then later on you explain that you have hit her. It seems like you have taught her that "might is right" instead of teaching her to act with respectfulness because that is the right thing to do.

Take a good look at how you are treating her. You are hitting. And being mean.

You are not modelling good or loving behaviour. That is the problem.

Stop hitting. Start speaking politely. Start to model all the things you want..

Maybe you both need some counseling to get some support because it seems like you have been treating her badly for a long time and it might not get undone right away.
