Hey parents, There is nothing wrong with your children. I often believe it is the way that educators teach! They teach to the linear, convergent thinkers out there, as I was one... the AVERAGE thinking mind! Many Teachers cannot or will not teach the same lesson in three different languages! There are several types of learning styles out there and I venture to say that many of our kids having difficulty, do not aspire to the kind of learning style to which teachers Teach!!! And gosh knows those Educators try! Many simply speak their lessons louder and BLAME some of our children for not being able to assimilate the lessons in the manner they are taught. What we need is education reform! Instead of rushing to apply pharmacology to our kids, let's first entertain the WAY that they learn. I will take a wild guess and venture to say that many simply have different ways of absorbing knowlege - different pathways to navigate! The problem is is that the brain won't tell us we're taking the wrong road, our kids just experience a real bumpy sidestreet - forced to navigate pathways through the brain which have no road signs and no outlets...what we see is their frustration at first and then they just lose interest in the journey because its too painful. Find out what their learning style is and demand that their educators accommodate them esp if that is primarily the only way in which they can take in new information. We'll insure healthy self-esteem and they will make a difference in our world feeling competant, valued and appreciated for what they can contribute.
