If your child is not already seeing one, take him to a GI specialist. I experienced what you are going through when my daughter was his age. Mineral oil helps some, but it may discourage him more because it leaves an oily residue in the bottom after the bowel movement. You may want to see if your doctor will prescribe a special mineral oil like Kondremul or constulose. These have worked wonders for my daughter over the years along with the medical care of an excellent pediactric GI team. Now she's eight and we still have difficulty sometimes, but things are getting alot better. Good Luck with your son!
