SUBJECT: feelings for my best guy friend
theres this guy who is my best friend and we hang out together all the time and i started having more romantic feelings towards him. I told him and he told me he was attracted to me too and that everytime we hung out he had the urge to hook up with me but he thought it would be better for us to stay friends because he valued our friendship too much and didnt wanna lose what we already have. He said that maybe sometime in the future something could happen but he still just wanted me as his best friend for now. He apologized for it and felt really bad. Even though this upset me, i agreed to go along with his decision because i respect him and his choices and i am very lucky to have a guy like him in my life who i can tell everything and just be myself around. So my questions....

Do you think it was right to stay friends or should we have seen where a more intimate relationship would have taken us?
and
what is a good way to deal with the hurt that i am feeling?... because i know i will still be around him a lot and i need help getting over him if im going to be looking at him as just a friend.

thank you so much for your time, your replies and advice would be greatly appreciated
