Hello...I see that you have already had a few responses to your original message. I just wanted to let you know that my son (now 17 months old) holds his breath also. He cries so hard that the breath is released and he cannot take the next breath. I have spoken to many doctors myself and they have assured me that he will grow out of it. When he is having a "spell", I simply blow into his mouth as quickly as I can. I have graduated to counting to three which usually calms him down and makes him take that next breath. It has worked. Fortunately, he has not passed out from one of these episodes because I watch him closely and pick him up right away to blow into his mouth. You can also try patting him on the back to force the breath out. Don't hit his back, just pat. This usually calms him down also so that he takes the breath.
