SUBJECT: Remember the '70's?
I remember the seventies but, frankly, this whole '70's revival thing has me confused. Low rise jeans (they were called "dittos" back in the day) and "crop tops". Words across your butt may be fine for Gwen Steffani, but I hardly think my 4 and 6 year old daughters need to advertise. Children in the 70's never wore these kinds of clothes ... teenagers and adults, yes ... children, no. I've had it with walking into a department store and finding nothing but skin tight, short or low rise clothing for my children. Children should dress as children ... not as "mini adults". It seems as if these clothes are not only marketed, but given center stage so that it is the first thing you see as you walk into the so called "girl's" section of many department stores. Have we become so morally bankrupt as a society that this overt sexualization of our children fails to even phase us? I have received some criticism from extended family. Their question ..."when are you going to let them grow up?" My answer is always the same ... "When they DO." Parents need to take MORE responsibility for safety, emotional well-being and moral teachings of their children and STOP this "herd mentality". As for me, I'm getting my sewing machine out of the closet.
