SUBJECT: My four-year-old is oversensitive
Help! My four-year-old son is terribly quick to tear up and apologize profusely whenever he is corrected. I wouldn't say that we are over-critical parents, and we both do our best to nuture and encourage him in every way we possibly can. Both my husband and I believe in positive reinforcemant, and give him plenty of "time-in", as well as affection and encouragemnt. Still, he seems to be so eager to please and terrified of doing the wrong thing (in almost any situation). When either one of us begin to correct him, he immediately tears up and wimpers that he's "in trouble". I know his teacher handles the kids in his class appropriately.....what's going on?
