SUBJECT: UTI 6 week old boy
My son developed a fever 3 days ago and was in the ER and doctors office ever since and they cannot determine for sure what the problem is. The only thing they have found so far is a slight growth of bacteria in his urine sample. Which really worries me because when I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks I read my doctors notes that she left in the room and it said slightly dilated renal pelvis (4mm) and she only mentioned it once and said don't worry it is usually nothing. Well now I am wondering is it really nothing? It can't be normal for a newborn boy to get a UTI. Don't you think they should have checked his kidneys at birth? Now he may have damage. I am worried about the long term effects now and what is he going to have to go thru in life? I would like to get other peoples opinions on this and see if anyone has had a child with this problem. I wish I could find someone who has. I really appreciate it. Thank you.
