| Serena is such a pretty name! I wish I had a good answer for you! Jess never slept through the night, or at least not until a decent hour in the morning, but I did notice her having more trouble with waking at around 4 mos. My 3rd baby (I read his baby book often to freshen my memory on what to expect - Jess came along more than 6 years later!) also began early wakings at around 4 months, and he had been sleeping through the night since he was just a few weeks old. My husband and I joked that what you want to hear at 4:30 am is a crying, hungry baby who'll eat and go back to sleep, not one wide awake and "talking!"
Do you rock your baby to sleep? It is true that a baby who's rocked to sleep can begin needing to be rocked back to sleep during normal wakings, instead of being able to put themselves back to sleep. Many people have luck getting their babies to sleep better by allowing them to learn to put themselves to sleep - but I still rock Jess! (And, look where I'm at!) Your baby may be teething, or I've noticed that my kids have slept worse when going through learning spurts. Four months is a big time of learning - they're learning to play with toys, roll over, "talk," socialize, smile, etc. It's really a fun age! One thing I can say is that with my kids, the wakings would often be a phase that would pass within a week or two. Good luck! |
