Using a belt to spank a child is cruel. A leather strap is not discipline, it is mean. Bruising as a result of spanking proves that the spanking was a beating. CPS won't just come over one day and whip someone out of his own home. They can't. They found something that determined that he needed to be removed. Whatever that was, it got him arrested. I promise you it was not a one time thing. There is all kinds of red tape. Sometimes there is plain evidence of abuse in the home (burns, malnutrition, etc) and it takes forever to get the child out of that situation. If you believe in God, then ask him to help your cousin control his anger. Pray that the child doesn't blame himself for the family's hardship. I hope that you find a different way to reach your own child. I was "spanked" with the belt when I was a child. It made me feel helpless, worthless and unloved. It taught me nothing except that if mom gets mad, I get the belt. Please make another choice for yourself. Gain respect and trust from your child, not fear.
