hi
i can't help with the stain, but the child proofing is something i've dealt with.
I had the great fortune to have a child who at the age of 18 months (if that) could get past every known child lock sold on the markets. literally the only way to keep him out of something was an old fashioned lock and key, at least until he turned 2 and figured out how to open locks.
So I had to teach my son about detergents and medications etc. we just took it day by day and when he went to touch something i felt was dangerous, he was told no! it took a while, it still is - today he told me he got himself a glass of water from the fishbowl! But the main problems such as detergents and stuff he stays away from. it worked so well that when my parents stayed with us after a car accident, he actually brought me their pills to move. i think he said something about "only mommy gives medicine".
Don't be discouraged, you can't protect him in every situation and the best defence is knowledge.
Hope you get through this ok.
