hi,

my son is now 3 and I split with his father when I was 5 months pregnant. At first his father wanted nothing to do with us, then he did but didn't want to pay any maintenance. Then after I took him to court he agreed to visit his son one weekend a month. I then moved country and things got very rough between us. Eventually I stopped trying to create a bond between my son and his father. The more I was trying the further away his dad was running. Now he is in contact - not all the time, but it is there and he visited last month for 2 weeks. But the rules were made clear to him first. If my son was unhappy about his dad in anyway then the visitation would stop. No discussion just stop. It is more important for your child to feel safe and secure and most of all loved. And if your child's dad really cares for his daughter then he will accept that she has issues with him and give her space and time to deal with them. If he is not prepared to accept the fact that he is emotionally damaging his own daughter then be strong and take it to a family court. It is much more important for a child to have one parent that she can trust totally for love and protection than 2 parents who are either fighting each other or not giving her the love and secureness she needs. Be strong and stop the visits. Wait until she asks you to see her dad before thinking about restarting them again. Children aren't stupid, they often know what's best for them, even if it takes us a while to catch on.
